About Us

Our Story

Our founder, Jo, is an outstanding specialist Drama teacher with huge experience in not just teaching young people but has herself booked workshop companies to go into schools she has taught in to work with pupils.  Jo noticed that while many of these workshops were of a high standard they were not tailor- made for her pupils needs, the same workshop delivered to all pupils in all schools and often led by people without a background in teaching.  Jo noticed that workshops were often led by actors or by people with specialist knowledge in Drama but not in other subjects/ areas of learning or the curriculum.  Shine Drama workshops delivers something different.

We understand that each pupil is an individual, that each group of pupils will need something different and that each teacher will teach a topic differently, with different focuses and using different methods. We work with the teacher/teachers and design for them a workshop specifically for them and their pupils’ needs.

While a Head of Drama and later as a supply teacher, Jo also realised that many teachers see the huge value of Drama in the classroom and how it can enhance learning while developing crucial life skills. However, these same teachers often did not have the expertise or courage to incorporate Drama into their own lessons, instead booking external agencies to work with the young people in their groups. We can give you the skills  and the confidence through INSET in your schools. The skills and techniques we share with you can be implemented in any subject at any level. Our founder delivers these workshops and has been working with teachers in schools for many years in the role of mentor to qualified and trainee teachers
